Nick began taking Violin lessons in 2004 shortly after moving to West Buckland School in North Devon. This was to be the start of his love affair with music. He soon began taking Piano lessons, later ‘Cello and in his final year there, 2013, Organ lessons under Dominic Carter. In September of 2014, he was accepted into the specialist music school, The Wells Cathedral School where he studies organ with Daniel Moult. By summer of 2014, Nick had achieved Distinction in his Grade 6 exam and also gave a recital in the Reykjavik Hallgrimskirkja. He recently took his ABRSM Grade 8 exam and achieved Distinction. During his time at West Buckland, he played or sang in every ensemble, with the exception of the Girl’s choir! He also worked as Chapel organist, playing for school assemblies and the regular boarder’s services.
Upon moving to Wells, he started to play organ at the United Reformed Church in Wells and also at St John the Baptist in Pilton. In 2015, Nick was appointed as Organ Scholar at St John the Baptist in Glastonbury. Here, he helps in accompanying both congregation and choir as well as occasionally conducting the choir.
Meanwhile at Wells Cathedral School, he sometimes conducts the school’s chapel choir during services and sometimes plays the organ for such services. Next year, he will take up the position of Junior Organ Scholar at Wells Cathedral but will continue to work with the thriving music department at St John’s.
