The Seattle grunge legends were perhaps best known for their worldwide '94 hit 'Black Hole Sun', they were originally signed to Seattle indie label Sub Pop (which reportedly influenced Kurt Cobain to sign Nirvana with them). Soundgarden then went on to become the very first grunge band to sign to a major label when they joined A&M Records.

Following two GRAMMY ® award wins, seven overall nominations and over 21 million records sold worldwide, in 2010 the band announced a new beginning. They released their first retrospective album, 'Telephantasm', followed by their first live album, 'Live on I-5', before penning the end title song, 'Live to Rise', for the feature film The Avengers.

A highly influential band to future grunge, metal and alt-rock bands alike, they were praised for their technical musical ability and expansive sound. Frontman Chris Cornell passed away in May 2017 at the age of 52.
