'Tis Nature's Voice: Solo Song in Seventeenth Century England
The inspiration of singing in seventeenth century England, Dowland's First Book of Ayres in 1597 marked the arrival in print of a new performance ideal: a solo voice and one instrument, as the compelling way to move the heart and soul in everything from love lyrics to deepest darkness and theatre-inspired virtuosity. Internationally recognised counter tenor Robin Blaze takes on the lute song repertory from Dowland through to the glories of Henry Purcell, accompanied by Elizabeth Kenny on lute and theorbo. We are hugely grateful to a TEMS member for making this concert possible.
This concert has been organised in conjunction with the Totnes Early Music Society and is one of a season of six concerts. For more details about the society and their concert programme, including the benefits of membership, visit the TEMS website.
Elizabeth Kenny
