The Dark Horse

Incredible and inspirational film based on the true story of New Zealand chess legend Genesis Potini. A former speed-chess champion struggling with bipolar disorder, Genesis (Cliff Curtis) takes over as coach of a chess team for at-risk youth, in an effort to bring them to the national chess championship.
The Dark Horse is an emotionally-charged and inspiring drama about a man who searches for the courage to lead, despite his own adversities, finding purpose and hope in passing on his gift to the children in his community through the game of chess.
The film stars the versatile Cliff Curtis in the lead role, while also featuring rising New Zealand star James Rolleston as a troubled teen looking for a way out. The Dark Horse won the audience award at Seattle Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival and San Francisco Film Festival.
