The Sacred Yew
This rich and exciting exhibition explores the theme of the Yew, the Tree of Life, known as such amongst the cultures of the northern hemisphere for thousands of years. The Yew, the oldest living tree is an immortal giant, capable of continual regeneration and the knowledge of its immense significance, is returning.
Wales has the largest collection of ancient yews on earth. In Britain the Yew has been an axis mundi, a Guardian, a bridge between life and death, a boundary marker, a marriage tree, a healer and a medicine tree.
Three artists come together, sharing a passion for this tree, Janis Fry painter, Valerie James ceramic sculptor, and Paul Greenwood photographer. The thread running through and binding the work of these artists is the mystery and power of the Yew.
Showing at the Ceri Richards Gallery at Taliesin Arts Centre.
