Paines Plough Theatre Company, Pentabus Theatre Company

The UK’s national theatre of new plays, Paines Plough, in a co-production with Pentabus, returns to Pegasus with one of the funniest and most joyful productions about depression ever to be staged.

Written by Duncan Macmillan with comedian Jonny Donahoe (who also performs), Every Brilliant Thing takes the story of one child at the age of six and follows him as he grows up. The story starts with finding out his mum is in hospital. His dad says she’s ‘done something stupid’ and finds it hard to be happy.

Jonny takes the audience on the most incredible journey to list all the things worth living for starting with ‘1. Ice cream, 2. Kung Fu Movies, 3. Laughing so hard milk shoots out your nose, 4. Construction cranes, 5. Me.’

Asking the audience to play key roles in this journey - like his dad, his teacher and his first love – we find out about the lengths people will go to for the one they love.

Despite a subject that is rarely discussed voluntarily, this show has been a huge hit everywhere it has played including an off Broadway run earlier this year.
