Jamal Aliyev, Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra

Russian composers have written some of the greatest works in the Symphony Orchestra repertoire and this concert is a rare opportunity to hear some of them live at the Stag.

The Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra starts their concert of Russian Classics with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the original version, rather than the Rimsky Korsakov arrangement. Shostakovich’s cello concerto is one of the great works for the instrument.

It was written in 1959 for Mstislav Rostropovich who has described our young soloist today, Jamal Aliyev, as 'a huge talent'.

Tchaikovsky’s passionate and tragic final symphony, the Pathetique, which was premiered only days before his demise in October 1893, concludes the programme.
