They are proud to welcome June Emerson Wind Music Young Artist, Winner of the Brass Category Final and runner up in the 2016 BBC Young Musician competition, Ben Goldscheider. Ben is studying at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin and is currently wowing audiences across Europe.

He will be performing Ji?í Pauer’s Horn Concerto in its UK première. Composed in 1952, the work is full of the vitality of Pauer’s Czech homeland.

They open the concert with a transcription of J.S. Bach’s famous Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor by orchestra member, Paul Wilson. This masterpiece has been transcribed into many different forms by the likes of Stokowski and Respighi.

To close the concert they visit the fate-riven Symphony No.4 by Tchaikovsky. Composed in 1877-78, the symphony became an instant orchestral tour de force and is loved by all who play it.
