Choral Foundation Concert: Handel's Messiah

The City of London Sinfonia once again joins the Choir of Salisbury Cathedral under the baton of David Halls for another stirring performance of Handel's masterpiece 'Messiah', with soloists Jennifer France, Claudia Huckle, Benjamin Hulett and Felix Kemp.
Composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742, this piece has become one of the best-known and most popular choral works.

Nominated for The Times Breakthrough Award in Opera at the 2016 South Bank Sky Arts Awards, Winner of the Song Prize at the 2014 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and of a 2014 Leonard Ingrams Award from Garsington Opera, Jennifer France graduated from the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won many prizes, including the prestigious Patron’s Award that resulted in her solo recital debut at the Wigmore Hall, and was awarded the Principal’s Prize at graduation for exceptional all-round studentship in Summer 2013. nnifer France has been awarded the Bruce Millar/ Gulliver Singing Prize in Glasgow and the Song Prize at the Hampshire Singing Competitin. She is currently studying with Lillian Watson.

Young British tenor Benjamin Hulett studied Music as a choral scholar at New College, Oxford and Opera at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He was a soloist at the Hamburg State Opera from 2005 to 2009 and has achieved great success in lyric roles from Tamino (Die Zauberfloete) and Ferrando (Cosi fan Tutte) to Steuermann (Die Fliegende Hollaender) and Novice (Billy Budd).
