Stravinsky, Milhaud, Zappa… the list of composers who were fascinated by jazz is a stellar one, and Britten Sinfonia follows them on a fascinating musical journey from old world harmonies to the hotspots of Harlem. Legendary Puerto Rican bassist Eddie Gomez has been in the vanguard of music for four decades, working with jazz giants including Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman and as a member of the Miles Davis Quintet and Bill Evans Trio. He joins the orchestra to walk the fine, infinitely fascinating line between classical and jazz, including tributes to New York jazz, Tango and Ragtime by Milhaud and Stravinsky, Frank Zappa’s irreverent Igor’s Boogie and a one-off treat for classical and jazz fans alike – Steven Osborne and Gomez performing the music of the late, great Bill Evans.
