Jazz at Progress

Alex Garnett has been plying his awesome trade on the jazz scene for around twenty years and spent a number of these years exercising his chops in New York. However, his big impact with various bands in Europe and the USA and a heavy workload meant that he did not release his first album Serpent, bristling with original compositions, until 2011. Alex has now become an even more established favourite, particularly on the London jazz scene, with two regular weekly spots at Ronnie's and festival appearances throughout the UK and Europe.

Alex plays a forceful tenor, rooted in bebop with a contemporary edge. The Bunch of Fives group featured at the Southport Jazz Festival in February 2014 and were enthusiastically received. You may have heard the BBC Jazz Line-up recording of the gig broadcast shortly after. They are recording a new album, Andromeda, early in 2015 and this gig is on the tour. Jazz in Reading is really pleased to have the tour date and anticipates another gig to remember.

A glittering band membership includes Liam Noble on piano, James Maddren on drums and Mike Janisch on bass, with USA tenor man, Tim Armacost, completing the fantastic line-up.

Jazz at Progress is presented in association with Jazz in Reading.
