Opera Celebrity Lunch At Harbour Heights
Lunch at the Harbour Heights Hotel in Poole with guest speaker, conductor Sir Mark Elder CBE
After a welcome drink whilst admiring the stunning, panoramic views over Poole Harbour, you will sit down for a three-course formal lunch amongst fellow opera-lovers at the stylish Harbour Heights Hotel near Sandbanks. After lunch, whilst coffee is served, we'll enjoy a post-lunch talk by our celebrated guest.
Sir Mark Elder is no stranger to Dorset; he was at school at Bryanston where the new concert hall has been named in his honour. From 1973-1993 he was music director of the English National Opera during the Golden Years of the Power House Triumvirate under Lord Harewood.
As principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, he is famed for his somewhat controversial speeches at the Last Night of the Proms. In 1999, he was appointed music director of the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester and is credited with having restored that orchestra’s high musical standards and good name. He continues to conduct operas and concerts with the major institutions of the world.
