Vadim Repin - Violin
Marios Papadopoulos - Conductor

Vadim Repin makes a welcome return following his heartening performance with us in 2016. This time, the Russian violinist brings us not Shostakovich but Prokofiev, and a concerto in which wondrous fantasy and nervous energy meet to enchanting effect. After Prokofiev's concerto and a deliciously impulsive slice of Saint-Saens, Marios Papadopoulos takes us back to Shostakovich and life in mid-century Soviet Russia. Beneath the clashing waltzes and cartoon chases of the composer's ninth symphony of 1945 is the underlying message that life under the regime was anything but fun.

Vadim Repin

Outstanding classical violinist from Siberia.
