Philosopher A C Grayling considers the troubled times we live in when war and conflict are never far away. While describing the dark side of modern life he explores ways out of the habits and prejudices that threaten to trap us into conflict.Grayling is one of our leading philosophers best-known for lucid and engaging books that aim to make philosophy useful and help ideas engage with the world. The Challenge of Things is a collection of his recent writings on the world at a time of war and conflict. Other well-known works include The God Argument Liberty in the Age of Terror The Good Book and Friendship.Grayling is founder and master of New College of the Humanities London. He is a regular contributor to radio and television including on the Radio 4 Today Programme and BBC2's Newsnight and is a vice-president of the British Humanist Association and a patron of Dignity in Dying.
