Tchaikovsky had a choppy relationship with the pianist Nikolai Rubinstein and one night dreamed his colleague was dead, vowing to treat him with more kindness thereafter. When Rubinstein did die not long after, Tchaikovsky went to his desk and within a month had finished his only piano trio, 'dedicated to the memory of a great artist'. This tender, anguished and beautifully coloured work forms the high point of a Russian-themed chamber music concert for which Marios Papadopoulos and soloists of the Orchestra are joined by the Russian virtuoso Vadim Repin.
