Creative Writing And History

Three writers professor David Nash Peter Furtado and Dr James Hawes take the audience on a seminar session through the strategies and techniques and problems and methods for the writing of history. Topics covered will include the materials of history; source material and bridging the gaps; language and narrative; and conveying the otherness of the past.

Nash is an historian at Oxford Brookes University and author of Blasphemy in the Christian World and Christian Ideas in British Society: Stories of Belief in the Twentieth Century.

Furtado is a former editor of History Today and author of Histories of Nations: How Their Identities Were Forged and 1001: Days That Shaped Our World.

Hawes is a reader in creative writing at Oxford Brookes University and author of Englanders and Huns: How Five Decades of Enmity Led to the First World War and Excavating Kafka.Presented by Oxford Brookes University
