Edge Hill University Second Year Drama Students present a season of plays by Federico Garcia Lorca
The Theatre is a school of tears and laughter – Lorca
The greatest Spanish playwright of the twentieth century was murdered 80 years ago by fascists in the early days of the Spanish Civil War. In these plays, his three great masterpieces, love and loss, longing and duende, the spirit of the earth.
Yerma
adapted by Pam Gems
In a remote Spanish village Yerma, a woman full of life and passion, longs for a child but is unable to conceive. This compelling and elemental tale of a woman's quest for a child taps into some of the most universal themes of theatre - love, passion, sexuality, marriage. In this epic glory, vibrant and sweeping, with elements of dance and song, Yerma is an exhilarating theatrical event.
“Pam Gems' magnificent adaptation of this poetic tragedy is … soft, yet as hard as the sun-baked soil” The Guardian
