Before she became one of the world’s most important and loved novelists, Margaret Atwood was a poet.
Now - her first new poetry book in over a decade – Dearly - brings together many of Margaret’s most recognisable and celebrated themes; from minutely perfect descriptions of the natural world to startlingly witty encounters with aliens, from pressing political issues to myth and legend.
To celebrate her latest publication, Margaret will be joined by some very special guests for an exclusive livestream. By turns moving, playful and wise, the poems explored in this event reflect on absences and endings, ageing and retrospection, but also about gifts and renewals. Margaret and her guests will touch on bodies and minds in transition, as well as the everyday objects and rituals that embed us in the present. Werewolves, sirens and dreams make their appearance, as do various forms of animal life and fragments of our damaged environment.
With some enchanting readings, never-before-heard stories and fascinating conversation, all underpinned by Margaret’s trademark insight, empathy and humour, this event will delight long-term readers and new fans alike.
This event is presented by Fane and Vintage, in partnership with and in support of Apples & Snakes - the UK’s leading spoken word poetry organisation.
Please note: All live stream events are subject to change. Not all events listed are live performances by the artist - they also include archived concerts, DJ sets, masterclasses, Q&As and more.
