Expect each show to have at least three 20 minute headline slots, plus tonnes more acts coming on and doing a turn, plus live games, skits, pastiches and specials, big diva song moments, and all capped off with a virtual after party at which special guest comedians will play "back at mine" sets of their favourite tracks. Make space in your living room schedules because this is gonna be history in action, and it's gonna be bloody hilarious.

NEW COMEDIANS - GET INVOLVED!

There will also be video submissions from comedies newest acts! We're hosting a competition with prizes. if you've been doing comedy for less than three years submit a video that is no longer than 2 minutes with the theme "Back To Normal", and we will play some of our favourites like an advert break on the night, and share the Top 5 on The Clapham Grand's social media. Email them to us here: Grandreliefshow@gmail.com

TELL US WHY YOU LOVE COMEDY!

Also we want the general public to submit 30-60 second clips about "I love live comedy" or "The best live comedy show I ever saw was...." or why live comedy has helped or changed your life. Give a shout out to your favourite night or club and send it in!

INTERACTIVE FRONT ROW TICKETS BABY...

You can watch FOR FREE, or - if you want the acts to see your face, why not buy a Zoom ticket for the price of a pint and join the virtual front row which will appear on a big screen in front of the comedians on the night! All funds raised go directly to Britain's endangered live comedy scene, more info below. Depending on government guidelines there might even be very limited physical tickets, but don't count on it, tuck in on Zoom for now and keep your eyes peeled for upgrades - your support is everything so grab a place in the cosmos quick.

WHY WE ARE DOING IT

The future of live comedy is hanging by a thread, and there is currently no trust (like the Live Music Venues Trust) to organise and distribute funds. Therefore we are asking our comedians to nominate their favourite comedy clubs or promoters, as well as supporting our friends and family at Top Secret Comedy Club, Gilded Balloon, The Stand, The Glee Club, Pleasance and The Clapham Grand itself. We will be working closely with Save Live Comedy and listening to their advice, and all acts are performing for absolutely free.

The Clapham Grand are also giving their iconic venue space and expertise for free for these events. The South London variety theatre has been serving up comedy for 120 years and the stage was once the home of a little known act called Charlie Chaplin. In recent years Clapham Grand was where the first series of Taskmaster was recorded, Mo Gilligan Hosted four sell out shows here, Russel Howard performs his work-in-progress shows and just before the virus Clapham Grand started using their attic bar as a comedy club space 'Upstairs At The Grand'.

There obviously are some costs involved with putting on shows this big, and they will be dealt with minimally, efficiently, and transparently.

Following June's hugely successful 'Grand Aid' led by Frank Turner and Billy Bragg, a live stream marathon that raised over £20,000, now it's time for a bit of "Grand Relief" to help #SaveLiveComedy and you're all invited! Spread the word, invite people, watch this space, keep the conversation flowing, be nice, and get ready to laugh your socks off at home!

We need YOU to make this work on a truly tremendous scale, and raise a handsome sum of money to support some of Britain's comedy clubs and promoters that are currently going through hard times, as well as showcasing performers and collectives. We're dreaming big and with YOUR support we can DO THIS! All money raised will go to brilliant deserving recipients and in return your support will be rewarded with this amazing, outlandish, iconic, once-in-a-lifetime, truly marvellous online comedy treasure trove!

Fern Brady

Fern Brady appearing at this event

Former comedy reviewer Fern Brady first tried stand-up after the magazine she worked for suggested she write an article where she 'faked it' as a comedian. She enjoyed it so much that one year on, she embarked on it as a career. She quit her day job working with male ex convicts after Stewart Lee plucked her from obscurity and put her on The Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central). Since then she has performed stand up on a number of TV shows including 8 out of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Seann Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular (BBC3), Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central) and The One Show (BBC1). Based in London, she has had two sold out critically acclaimed runs at the Fringe with her solo shows “People Are Idiots” (2015) and “Male Comedienne” (2016). 'A great comic sensibility, with moments of sparkling verve' (The Guardian) 'Crackles with fire, has beautiful timing, perfectly pitched delivery and great gags to boot... has the air about her of a woman going places' (The Scotsman).

Thanyia Moore

Described as ‘Moore by name and moorish by nature’, Thanyia Moore has always held a love for comedy, but despite a background in acting and dance, she didn't find the confidence to tell jokes on stage until much later in life. With a brutally honest ‘matter of fact’ stage persona combined with charm and razor sharp wit, she's taken the comedy circuit by storm with show after show as one of the hardest working comics around. Winner of the coveted Best Female Newcomer Award at the 2013 Black Comedy Awards, she's definitely a talent to look out for. 'I haven't seen anyone like you since Gina Yashere... (Richard Blackwood) 'Thanyia is what was missing from urban comedy. A funny woman with an opinion' (Kojo) 'Thanyia presents her comedy with a real zest and hearty feeling that demonstrates she adores comedy... And the audiences adore her too in return. A pleasure to watch and laugh' (Mr Cee) 'Thanyia Moore has come on to the stand up circuit with a style, hilarious wit, brutal honesty and flair that has made her infamous – traits which I think will make her famous!’ (Dane Baptiste).
