We are delighted to welcome stand-up comedian and actress, Janice Connolly to TYD this year to lead a funny, lively and interactive workshop on the art of comedy. If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a comedian, or just want to explore more about comedy as part of your acting toolkit you won’t want to miss this fantastic workshop.
Janice is best known for her unforgettable performance as her alter ego Mrs Barbara Nice, on Britain’s Got Talent last year. Once described as a hybrid between Victoria Wood and Mrs Merton, her act - as a middle-aged housewife - captured the imagination of the Britain’s Got Talent judges and voting public last year, when she got through to the semi-finals of the show.
Janice has had her own comedy series on BBC Radio 2, whilst also appearing on countless TV programmes including, Coronation Street, Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, its follow-up show, Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere and Thin Ice for the BBC. She also more recently appeared in the film Eaten By Lions.
In addition to her performance work, Janice won the British Empire Medal for her work with Women and Theatre in Birmingham.
Janice is also a fully trained teacher and is passionate about sharing her work and experience with young people.
Places are strictly limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!
Workshop duration 1 hour
Please note: All live stream events are subject to change. Not all events listed are live performances by the artist - they also include archived concerts, DJ sets, masterclasses, Q&As and more.
'Barbara Nice - ordinary housewife extraodinaire - has given up the domestic bliss of Tupperware and Poundstretcher shops for the unpredictability of the comedy circuit (her husband thinks she's at the bingo). No audience is too rowdy for her to handle - she's already raised five teenagers. She believes in bargains, Take a Break magazine, getting the most from life. Oh and Stage-diving! This well observed comedy character is so likeable that she draws even the most cynical of audiences and takes them along for a ride. 'A hybrid between Victoria Wood and Mrs Merton' - The Times.
