Come Together: Barb Jungr & John McDaniel Perform The Beatles

Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser

In an exciting collaboration, two giants of cabaret from both sides of the Atlantic, extraordinary and award-winning vocalist and performer Barb Jungr and Grammy and Emmy award-winning Broadway musical producer, arranger & pianist John McDaniel investigate The Beatles' song catalogue in their own unique and inimitable fashion.

Barb and John celebrate Paul, John, George and Ringo with brand new, breathtaking, inspiring and often unexpected arrangements!

In musical circles, Barb Jungr needs no introduction. Following her incredible sell-out show at The Swan earlier this year with Grammy-award winning pianist Laurence Hobgood, we are delighted to welcome her back in yet another fantastic collaboration. An artist that occupies a magical zone where jazz, cabaret and the chanson comingle and ignite, over the course of her career Jungr has developed that most rare of vocalist’s gifts: a musical vocabulary all of her own. With years of experience as a performer and recording artist under her belt and a string of awards across an incredible spectrum of mediums and genres, it is a striking testament to her vitality as an artist that Jungr’s reputation just keeps on growing.

Building on the runaway success of her celebrated interpretations of Bob Dylan songs, Come Together sees Jungr take on and lovingly revitalise yet another sacred cow of rock and pop: The Beatles. The band that perhaps more than any other helped to shape and define the popcultural milieu of the late 20th Century, for many The Beatles still represent the pinnacle of song writing achievement. What would be a daunting prospect for most, however, is simply grist to Jungr’s musical mill: the harmonic and melodic genius for which the fab four are globally praised forms Jungr’s raw material as she effortlessly displays quite how versatile, generative, and emotionally potent the Beatles’ back catalogue can be. With her eloquent, playful, and spirited interpretative style, Jungr has yet again shed a new and dazzling light on the music that defined a generation.

What’s more, with Come Together Jungr has found the perfect partner for such an ambitious project in the multiple Grammy and Emmy award winning arranger &
pianist John McDaniel. Both doyens of the cabaret world, the pair’s collaborative compatibility has resulted in the near faultless regeneration of some of the greatest songs of the modern era. Come Together is both a revelation and a revolution - it undoubtedly confirms Barb Jungr as one of our most accomplished and passionate interpreters of song.

“In her ability to revitalize familiar songs by theatrically dramatizing the lyrics, Ms. Jungr has a magic touch.” - New York Times Review

"????? If there were a London cabaret theatre crown, it would rest on Barb Jungr’s head. Her reputation for giving great performances and interpretation of songbooks that are not typical cabaret fare make this show an essential ticket. McDaniel’s Act II performance of the George Harrison’s ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ is moving, perfectly rendered on piano and feels contemporary both in songwriting and in relevance to today’s world. It is the highlight of an act that has many high points and no low ones.” - Musical Theatre Review, UK

“Deeply affecting – exhilarating - mesmerizingly intense - exquisite! Thrilling and revelatory, the show is that rarity: an Anglo/American collaboration that’s actually worth celebrating.” - Pop Matters, UK

“One of the world's great cabaret singers, England's Barb Jungr is a genuine original, deploying warmth, high drama and sensitive musicality to reinvent everything she sings....Now she teams up with musical director John McDaniel (The Rosie O'Donnell Show) to dig into the rich catalog of the Beatles. What could be fabber?” - Time Out New York

“One after another, the songs left rapt expressions on the audience members’ faces. McDaniel’s arrangements gave new life to (the) songs.” - Cabaret Scenes, New York

"Sassy, sultry, insidious, challenging, nonsensical fun" - BroadwayWorld

“Throughout it the twosome finds depths in the repertoire that even songwriters Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison had no idea were there.” - The Village Voice, New York,
