St George’s Day dawns on the village, but a sinister presence lurks in its surrounding woods. Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron, is a waster, a drug-dealer and a pied-piper leading the youth of the village astray.

Yet his conviction in the power of myth, hope and magic in the face of what he believes to be a more destructive force, the onslaught of modern life, makes Jez Butterworth’s masterpiece a poignant and conflicted reflection of our green and pleasant lands.
