'Crazy for You, written in 1992, is an exuberant celebration of the music of George Gershwin, and was described in a first night review as a riotously entertaining show.
Based on George and Ira Gershwins 1930s musical Girl Crazy, it features songs from a further five of their shows and includes such classic ballads as Someone to watch over me, Embraceable You, They cant take that away from me, as well as thrilling dance numbers like I got Rhythm and Slap that Bass.
The story concerns a reluctant New York banker who really wants to sing and dance, a feisty girl trying to bring a spark of life to the decaying town of Deadrock, a domineering mother and a pushy girlfriend, a derelict theatre, a famous theatre director with a strong Hungarian accent, and any number of complicated love triangles. The script sparkles and crackles with witty one-liners, in a style reminiscent of Bob Hope and the Marx brothers.
If you need a post-Christmas tonic, come and let CBW riotously entertain you, and we promise to leave you feeling on top of the world.
