Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2012 at the age of fifteen, cellist Laura van der Heijden has taken the world ofclassical music by storm, and forthcoming debuts for the (now) 17 year old include appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra.
In this unmissable concert she will join forces with Sinfonia Cymru to bring the searing drama of Shostakovich’s first cello concerto to life in a programme that also features Beethoven’s exuberant eighth symphony and twoevocative works originally composed for the theatre stage: Sibelius’s magicalsuite from Pelléas et Mélisande, and the atmospheric Quiet City by Aaron Copland.
