This event has been and gone.
Please note all shows at Theatre Royal, Newcastle are cancelled until at least 12th April 2020.
From the venue:
We would like to reassure our customers that we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.
The advice from Government is that theatres should close and accordingly Newcastle Theatre Royal is cancelling all performances until 12 April 2020. We will continue to review the situation and advise in due course if we will be closed beyond that date.
Customers who have tickets for performances up to and including 12 April will automatically receive an email or letter from us offering a refund or credit note.
As an independent charity which receives no funding, we rely on our share of tickets sales; we only keep a small proportion of ticket income which pays for the running of the theatre, a donation towards our costs will help us keep going during these difficult times. We are very grateful for your support.
From 17 March our Box Office will be open from 10.00am to 6.00pm for telephone enquiries only; in line with Government guidance we will not be opening the public Box Office in our foyer. Please don’t call us – our team are exceedingly busy at present so please bear with us as we work through the refund process at this challenging time.
Please refer to our website and social channels for further updates over the coming weeks.
We greatly appreciate the support of our audiences at this testing and anxious time. It is a fast-moving situation; we are monitoring it closely and will keep you posted. We are hopeful that things will get back to normal soon and we hope to see you return in the not too distant future.
An official Channel 4 survey of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups Ever placed Stewart Lee at number 41. His mother, whom he loves dearly, thinks Tom O'Connor the better comedian, having seen him do a joke about a sardine on a cruise ship ten years ago. And he isn't even in the top 100... 'The funniest, most cliche-free comedian on the circuit' (Ricky Gervais). 'Superlative... Remains one of the best stand-ups in the country' (Metro) 'Marvellously funny: mordant, thoughtful and crafted' (Observer) 'There's a wealth of evidence to suggest that in the last few years, Lee has gone completely mad... More skilful and playful than ever' (The Guardian) 'What is exhilarating is how many surprises he still throws in and how deft his jumps are from one tone to another….invigorating' (The Times) 'He is... the only comedian who can get away with deconstructing and critiquing his own routines as he goes along and not be repellent. He, and his material, are simply that good' (The Independent).
