Energetic bomb, kooky super talent and ex leader singer/ bassist of the Noisettes, Shingai brings her unique solo act to Newcastle. Meaning "be bold/courageous/strong Shingai lives up to her name with electric performance, brave genre hopping compositions and a refusal to follow the pack. Her show sparkles with an energy that is wholly absorbing and radiates lively African rhythms and melodies while drawing on pop, soul, jazz and electronics to create a truly original sound.
Niece of Thomas Mapfumo, collaborator with as Dizzee Rascal, Annie Lennox, Dennis Ferrer and Tony Allen, Shinghai is usually to be found on much bigger stages and this is a special booking for Cobalt.
