The musical, which won The International Quest for New Musicals, is based on the original book Her Benny, written by Methodist Minister Silas K Hocking in 1879. The book made Hocking the first ever million-selling novelist. Working in the North of England he came into direct contact with the kind of poverty that inspired him to write Her Benny.

The show's adult star is Johnny Kennedy, who is looking forward to returning to The Floral Pavilion. Johnny has starred in Her Benny from the beginning, during sell out runs at the Liverpool Empire and subsequent tours. He plays the kindly night-watchman who takes in the struggling youngsters and finds his life totally changed. Johnny is a radio legend in the North West, where he lit up the airwaves on Radio City with his unique brand of humour.

He currently broadcasts a successful Saturday show on Wirral Radio. A classically-trained tenor, Johnny is in great demand as a recitalist throughout the UK, including recent appearances at London’s Wigmore Hall. Watch out for his rendition of the show-stopping 'As Long As I Believe'.
