Founded by bassist Kim Deal of The Pixies in the late '80s, along with Tanya Donnelly from Throwing Muses, The Breeders were signed to 4AD in 1989 and released their debut album, 'Pod'. Following Tanya's departure, the new line-up of Kim, her sister Kelley, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson played their first show together on Friday June 19th, 1992, in a snooker hall behind Warrington Rugby Club in the north of England. Two days later they supported Nirvana in Dublin and Belfast, and then played at Glastonbury. Back in the US, after playing 27 sold-out shows that fall, they made their way to San Francisco to record Last Splash.

Formed in the 1980's by Kristin Hersh and her half-sister Tanya Donnelly, Throwing Muses became the first American band to be signed to the 4AD label in 1986. Probably their best-known album, The Real Ramona was released in 1991, spawning two minor hit singles, Counting Backwards and Not Too Soon, which characterised their moody, acoustic-ambient sound. Shortly afterwards Tanya left to join The Breeders and then Belly, but Kristin continues the Muses with her new line-up.

A trailblazer in the Bristol trip-hop scene of the early 1990s, Tricky helped define 'The Bristol Sound'. His seminal album 'Maxinquaye' was a critical and commercial success, ranked number 1 on NME & Melody Maker's Top Albums of 1995 and shortlisted for the 1995 Mercury Prize. In addition, it was placed highly in Q's 100 Greatest British albums, Mojo's 100 Modern Classics and Rolling Stone's Essential Recordings of the '90s, amongst others. Tricky would later go on to collaborate with musical dignitaries such as Bjork, PJ Harvey, Mos Def, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Grace Jones and Yoko Ono and is now one of the most wanted men in music. Innovative, eclectic and much in demand!

Foals formed in Oxford in 2005. The band's musical influences are varied, with members citing minimal techno, Arthur Russell, the Irish based math rock band The Redneck Manifesto, Krautrock bands such as Harmonia, and Talking Heads as their main sources of inspiration. Their musical style, however, can be more directly linked to various genres such as math rock, indie Rock or New rave.
After forming in 2005, Foals quickly made a name for themselves as one of the hottest live bands in the UK. With debut album Antidotes incurring chaotic living room gigs, follow-up Total Life Forever saw the band exploring a heavier sound, and stadiums beckoned by the time the critically-acclaimed album Holy Fire arrived in 2013.
Their most recent body of work, 2015’s What Went Down, has only served to cement the band’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with. Routinely earning five star reviews and accolades for their live shows, Foals were named as Best Live Act by Q in 2013, then, simply, Best Act In The World 2015.

Since they burst onto the music scene in 1990, the alt-rockers from Bellshill have made a huge impact on music with their Byrds-esque guitars and harmony vocals. Although pigeonholed as an alternative band, they are known for incorporating a wide variety of elements from various music styles in their songs.

Holy F*ck started with a simple concept, to mimic modern, electronic music without using modern fail-safes like laptops and programmed backing tracks so they armed themselves with a drum set, a bass guitar, a myriad of toy keyboards, guitar peddles, mixers and even a 35mm film synchronizer and hit the stage. NME named them as one of their top three performances when they appeared at Glastonbury.

One of the most radically inventive of the original New Wave bands, Gang Of Four were formed in 1977 by four Leeds University students. They quickly began marking out a territory of their own, fusing politics, musical experimentation and sheer rock 'n' roll energy. The band split in 1982, but have been reforming ever since. Their shows are always popular, both with fans who saw them the first time round, and with a new audience attracted by the huge number of bands the Gang have influenced.
