Loving Her, Loving Him
It’s June 2022 and Greater Manchester first Mayor has just been elected as Prime Minister. That’s just one of the amazing political scenarios that the award-winning Inkbrew Productions explore in their new play “Loving Her, Loving Him” by Stephen M Hornby. The plays premieres at leading new writing venue The Kings Arms, Salford.
Inkbrew Productions won the Greater Manchester Fringe Best Drama Award last year with their controversial dramedy “Die Diana” also by Stephen M Hornby. Additionally, they were nominated for Best Fringe Production at the Manchester Theatre Awards. The company are determined to make their new play every bit as topical and controversial, with a behind the scenes look at the sex, sweat and scum of political parties from the 1970s, through the present day, to a possible near future.
The major political events of four decade are seen through the eyes of two men. They chart the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn, as they conduct an illicit affair that stretches from the last days of Gordon Brown’s Government to first of Andy Burnham’s; over a decade of being on the inside of the Labour Party, hiding in plain sight. Back in the 1970s, two strangely similar men meet by chance in a hotel in Blackpool at Margaret Thatcher’s first Conservative Party Conference as Leader. They also conduct a secret affair over the next dozen years. The extremes of Thatcher’s Government mirror their tempestuous relationship as the two men struggle with each other, loving your enemy and the pace of change.
