Bryn Terfel, Manchester Concert Orchestra

A commanding presence in the international music world, the acclaimed operatic powerhouse Bryn Terfel will be playing four exclusive dates for the summer.

The Welsh bass-baritone has performed in all the great opera houses of the world, and is especially recognised for his portrayals of Figaro, Falstaff and Wotan. He is a Grammy, Classical Brit and Gramophone Award winner with a discography encompassing operas of Mozart, Wagner and Strauss, and more than ten solo discs including Lieder, American musical theatre, Welsh songs and sacred repertory. In 2003, Bryn was made a CBE for services to Opera in the Queen's New Year Honours list and in 2006 was awarded the Queen's Medal for Music.

In these special concerts, Bryn Terfel will perform personally chosen favourite arias including: Verdi: Il lacerato spirito from Simon Boccanegra; Bizet: Les Toréadors from Carmen; Verdi: Ehi! paggio! from Falstaff; Handel: Si, tra i ceppi from Berenice and Verdi: Ella giammai m'amo from Don Carlos.

He will be joined by Gwawr Edwards (soprano) and Caryl Hughes (mezzo-soprano) along with the Philharmonia Orchestra (London only) and the Manchester Concert Orchestra for the other 3 performances.
