Sing City - A Tale Of Two Cities

Brighter Sound presents two special Sing City sessions exploring songwriting in response to migration as part of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ project.

A Tale of Two Cities is led by Landlife National Wildflower Centre, Manchester City Council and the Friends of Everton Park.

Using arts, music and popular science, A Tale of Two Cities builds bridges for involvement and excitement around the transformation of public spaces using native wildflowers. Working with the playfulness of music in both cities, the project draws on a range of styles from classical Chinese dub to Manchester soul. A Tale of Two Cities has featured at festivals such as Out of the Blue in Everton Park, and Manchester International Festival.

Last year they launched the first phase of A Tale of Two Cities, recording new music at Parr Street Studios in collaboration with Liverpool’s young songwriters, Enchord.

This March, they’re delighted to welcome back Enchord to collaborate and produce new material especially for this project. In each session they’ll be exploring songwriting in response to migration, bringing the two cities of Manchester and Liverpool together.

At the end of the month, participants will have the opportunity to perform ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ at the monthly performance night, Sing City Live.

The two workshops and performance are part of Sing City, Brighter Sound’s songwriting and vocal collective for 13-18’s.

These free Sing City sessions continue to build, develop and nourish the talent of young people by incorporating regular performance opportunities, guest masterclasses and special workshops into the programme.

Sessions are led by a team of expert vocalists and music educators who all work professionally in the music industry. This fantastic team includes Sara Lowes (solo artist and composer), Yvonne Shelton (Gloria Estefan, Simply Red, George Michael), Liam Frost (solo artist and with Tokolosh band) as well as a number of guest musicians.

At the end of every month, there is a Sing City Live under 18’s performance night where everybody comes together to perform live on stage at Manchester’s iconic music venue Band on the Wall.
