Folk Double Headliner

Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser

Enjoy an evening of the best in British FOLK with a double headliner from:

Miranda Sykes and Benji Kirkpatrick

Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with ‘Show of Hands’ is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she is touring as she started out: one woman, one bass, and one guitar. Building on the success of her Borrowed Places tour, Miranda Sykes is back with a completely new project: Behind The Wall. Where Borrowed Places opened a window into the past, explaining where she had been, physically & spiritually, Behind The Wall is a Roller Coaster Ride exploring where we are going; Miranda, you, me, all of us. What does it mean to be human today, living in our communities & societies & where will our actions lead us? Powerful and hard-hitting but also poignant & beautiful, this show gives us all a chance to reflect & maybe even empower us.
Benji Kirkpatrick is well known as a rhythmic driver of such outfits as Bellowhead and Faustus, with his "memorably aggressive" (MOJO) style. He started working as a soloist early on in his career though, and now brings the focus back to that.

Enlisting fellow ex-Bellowhead member, Pete Flood on drums and Jackie Oates and Megan Henwood collaborator, Pete Thomas on bass, Benji has formed a power trio. This plan has been cooking for some time and with a new set of songs the band have sprung out of the blocks, albeit only in the rehearsal room...
Benji has been hunkered down writing and come up with a diverse array of new material ready to be road tested when the band start gigging later this year.

His last offering of original material was on 'Boomerang' (Navigator 2008) - it received much critical acclaim but came at a time when other projects were taking off so they took precedence and the album didn't receive the live airing it deserved. His most recent studio release features the songs of his first musical icon, Jimi Hendrix – ‘Hendrix Songs’ was released in September 2015 on EDJ Records alongside a national tour entitled ‘Bendrix’. The show included the projection of original artwork animations created by Shropshire artist, Esther Thorpe. The project's aim was to rediscover the song-writing of the legendary guitarist.

"This is a rare chance to hear the songs stripped back to their atmospheric essentials." - The Sunday Times
