Lovebox 2013

Passed

This event has been and gone.

The most hotly anticipated event in the London festival calendar, Lovebox returns to its original weekend this year for three days in July. Celebrating the very best in music, fashion and art, Lovebox has once again delivered one of the most diverse and exciting lineups around this summer, bringing a fantastically unique and eclectic range of the finest international talent to London's doorstep.

Ensconced, once again, in the beautiful surrounds of Victoria Park in East London, this year Lovebox will show exactly why it is still the city's premier urban, inner-city festival without equal, a true blue, homegrown celebration of all facets of London's brilliantly varied musical landscape in all its glory.

The beautiful backdrop of London's oldest public park serves to create a kaleidoscopic playground of giant art installations, theatrical film sets, acts of absurdity and barely controlled chaos under the trees as we celebrate live, love and everything in between.

Plan B

Plan B appearing at this event

A truly defiant figure in the world of music, Plan B’s diverse creativity is inexhaustible. His raw, incendiary debut album, Who Needs Actions When You Got Words broke new ground for UK hip hop in 2006, a loud, proud, obscenity-riddled scream of anger and pride from the streets of East London. But a part of Ben always stayed faithful to the soul he’d first heard as a child, and his sophomore album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks saw him marry the two together with astounding success, achieving quadruple-platinum status, hitting the #1 album spot and selling over 1.4 million copies in the UK alone, plus seeing him win both a BRIT and three Ivor Novello’s. His 2012 directorial debut (and accompanying album) iLL Manors saw him smashing boundaries with his creative style of overlapping stories and interweaving rap-narrative, boldly addressing socio-political issues with his often brutal cultural commentary, seeing Ben nominated for his fifth BRIT Award, being nominated for his first Mercury Music prize, and once again hitting #1 in the UK album chart.

Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp appearing at this event

Since vocalist Alison Goldfrapp teamed up synth wizard Will Gregory in 1999, the two forces have produced a string of critically-acclaimed albums, from the ambient and epic 2000 debut 'Felt Mountain' right up to 2017's 'Silver Eye'. With a catalogue of memorable electro-pop hits like 'Strict Machine' and 'Ooh La La' to the more downbeat numbers like 'A&E', Goldfrapp's brand of dirty growling synths and electro-folk combined with Alison's stunning vocals and costumes have always ensured an atmospheric and glamorous live performance.

Badbadnotgood

Badbadnotgood appearing at this event

Deep keyboard, murky bass lines, pounding exuberant drums and chilling cymbals are the hallmark sounds of this Canadian instrumental hip hop/jazz trio. They play a mix of original material and interpretations of tracks from a diverse range of artists such as Kanye West, James Blake and My Bloody Valentine. The band is made up of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, and Alex Sowinski on drums. "A jazz trio on paper - but often strange, forever imaginative, and ultimately revolutionary hip-hop and electronic beatmakers at heart." (Prefix)

Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus appearing at this event

Flying Lotus is commonly identified as a hip hop producer, but his style is drawn from many genres, including jazz and Brazilian music. His hip-hop beats are unique for their hazy, ambient sound, while his percussion is purposefully slightly off time to create a messier, more organic atmosphere. Because of this, he is often linked with producers Madlib and J Dilla.

A Love from Outer Space

The brainchild of Lord Sabre himself, Andrew Weatherall along with his longtime collaborator and friend Sean Johnston, A Love from Outer Space is something very special indeed. Originally run as a bi-monthly club night at a tiny, very sweaty room in North London, the night was designed to buck the trend and set out a different musical philosophy than could be found in most clubs across the country. A heady mix of dub, disco, proto-house, Krautrock, post punk and electronic oddities with the bpms never consciously exceeding 120 to create a hypnotic, intense and ultimately refreshing aural experience.
