All Points East Festival 2020 - Kraftwerk 3D
The German Gods of electronic music, Kraftwerk have been electronica pioneers and flag-bearers since the late 70s and show no signs of slowing down. Songs like 'The Model' (a no 1 UK single), 'Trans-Europe Express', 'The Robots' and 'Tour De France' inspired a generation of bedroom pioneers to pick up their keyboards and play. Without them, modern dance music (ambient, techno and trance) would be a far darker place - if it were there at all.

Taking a cross section from 70s horror films, a fixation with ancient societies, and a love for percussive electronic music, Chromatics keep it minimal. The synthesizers handle the cosmic elements, the guitar takes care of the moodier edge, and the drums are stripped down to a dirty disco for dancing.

Considered by some to be a female Nick Cave, scored for an imaginary Hitchock soundtrack, Anna Calvi's blend of dark atmospheric romantic pop saw her nominated for the Mercury Music Prize with her 2011 eponymous debut for the Domino label. Meanwhile her intense mesmerising live performances showcase her fiercely provocative and mastery electric guitar work, haunting vocals and hypnotic stage presence with striking torch songs. 2013 saw the release of her follow-up album 'One Breath', described by The Independent as “an LP that rumbles with lusty insistence, swoons with bliss, luxuriates in cinematic style and nudges Calvi’s emotive voice to fresh operatic heights.”

You’ve got to be doing something right when you can count amongst your fans the likes of Thom Yorke, Brian Eno, Carlos Santana or TV On The Radio. Formed in rebel training camps in Libya, these exiled nomads-turned-rock-stars of the Sahara have become the soundtrack for Touareg independence and reconciliation, combining traditional Touareg melodies with Malian, Western, Berber and Arabic influences to create spare, evolving, hypnotic songs. As if Keith Richards, Santana, John Lee Hooker, various members of Primal Scream, Mogwai and the Grateful Dead had got lost in the Sahara for a decade and then returned as a fully-fledged desert band.
