BBC Radio 6 Music Festival 2020 - By Night
Kae Tempest is a published playwright, poet and recording artist. Their playwriting credits include Wasted (Paines Plough) Brand New Ancients (BAC) and Glasshouse (Cardboard Citizens). They have written poetry for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Barnado’s, Channel 4 and the BBC. They have worked with Amnesty International to create a schools pack helping secondary school children write their own protest songs. Kae is a two times slam winner at the prestigious Nu-Yorican poetry cafe in New York and they have played all the major UK and European music festivals either solo or with their band Sound Of Rum. Their poetry book/CD/DVD package Everything Speaks In Its Own Way was published on their own imprint Zingaro in 2012. Kae's 2014 debut album Everybody Down became a Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize nominee. Each track on the album correlated with a chapter in their debut novel, The Bricks That Built The Houses, while the follow-up, 2016's 'Let Them Eat Chaos' entered the UK Top 30. 2019's 3rd album, The Book of Traps and Lessons, continues their rise to both critical and commercial success.

Kim Althea Gordon is an American musician. Gordon, who started out as a visual artist, rose to prominence as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist of alternative rock band Sonic Youth, which she formed with Thurston Moore in 1981. One of the most inspiring people in modern rock & roll, Kim is also a fashion icon, and renowned visual artist.

Anna Meredith is a composer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her sound is frequently described as ‘maximalist’ ‘uncategorisable’ and ‘genre-hopping’ and straddles the different worlds of contemporary classical, avant pop, electronica and experimental rock. She performs with her band of classical musicians and a line up of Anna on clarinet and electronics plus two cellists, electric guitar, tuba and drums. Her music has been performed everywhere from the BBC Last Night of the Proms to flashmob body-percussion performances in the M6 Services, PRADA fashion campaigns, numerous films, installations and documentaries, pop festivals, clubs and classical concert halls worldwide and broadcast on Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6.

Jehnny Beth’s career started with Johnny Hostile in 2011 in London, where they founded Pop Noire. Widely considered as one of the most powerful women in independent rock music, Jenny Beth doesn't hold back. Front singer in the band Savages, she champions sexual exploration and self-empowerment while challenging the cliches surrounding what it means to be a woman in a band. In addition to having traveled the world with Savages and performed on stage with the XX, LCD Soundsystem or Primal Scream, she also worked with artists such as Gorillaz, Julien Casablancas, and Trentemøller. Since 2016, she has been hosting her own radio show ‘Start Making Sense’ on Beats 1 inviting every week an artist from the independent musical sphere.

British born by way of Norweigan and Pakistani parentage, Nadine Shah is a vocalist/pianist from a small North East town called Whitburn over looking the waves and jagged rocks of the North Sea. Having earned an early reputation for that uniquely rich, soulful voice; Nadine released her debut album Love Your Dum and Mad to critical acclaim in 2013 and her 2017 third album Holiday Destination made the shortlist of the 2018 Mercury Album Prize award.
