The Rose Unfolds - Scratch Night
The Rose Unfolds - Scratch Nights.
At The Rose Playhouse, Bankside.
Each Scratch Night will be held on the second Sunday of the month at 5.00pm
‘The Rose Unfolds’ is a project that links the past, the present and the future of theatre performance in a unique space of huge historical and cultural significance.
As the first playhouse on Bankside, The Rose was the catalyst for Southwark to become the home of Elizabethan drama. Shakespeare, Marlowe and many of their contemporaries started their careers at The Playhouse.
The Rose Unfolds Project will continue this work, providing a platform for emerging artists and creating a forum to explore current theatre and arts practice, bringing a deeper understanding to both new and established audiences whilst giving context to the classical texts staged on the site.
The Rose Unfolds ‘Scratch’ events will take place on Sundays on a monthly basis. The Scratch Nights are underpinned by the idea of feedback and audience response.
They will be casual, discussive and interactive events where work, whether polished or raw, can be shown, discussed and further developed.
The Rose Playhouse, Bankside’s first theatre, 1587.
The Rose is an indoor archaeological site, it is advisable to dress with an extra layer as there is no heating. There are also no toilets so please use Shakespeare’s Globe just a few hundred meters away.
