Shakespeare Mus’d
By Mark Irvine

Performed by
Douglas Dean as William Shakespeare
Alashiya Gordes as Aline Daniel (John Florio's wife)
Gerard Logan as Richard Burbage

In search of the man and muse behind Shakespeare’s rise to fame, three actors bring to life the material that inspired him - the work of John Florio and Michel de Montaigne.

In his early work Shakespeare quotes from John Florio’s books for teaching Italian to English nobles, these books were being translated for the first time, nobles like the 19 year old, 3rd Earl of Southampton were greatly affected by these.

In Jonathan Bate’s book ‘The Genius of Shakespeare’ he suggests that Shakespeare’s Dark Lady was indeed Florio’s wife Aine Daniel, sister to poet Samuel Daniel.

Join in and you decide if you think she was indeed Shakespeare’s Dark Lady!

Gerard Logan (Olivier Nominee) returns to The Rose after his highly acclaimed performance of ‘Wilde Without The Boy’.

Please note this performance is split in to two parts of 50 minutes with a short interval.
