The Legend Of William Onyeabor

One of the greatest myths of the 20th century, Nigerian synthesizer whiz William Onyeabor certainly earned the title of ‘cult favourite’.

Mysterious and reclusive to the end, he had countless journalists, publishers and documentary makers clamouring to tell his story and showcase his music to the world. In fact the only tangible evidence we have of his existence bar a couple of photos and of course, the music, is a radio interview he gave in 2014 where he nobly stated: “I only create music that will help the world”.

Bridging funk, disco and afrobeat, Onyeabor’s style was wholly unique and revolutionary for the time and place in which he grew up. Bukky Leo’s Black Egypt collective have put together a full show that unequivocally celebrates the life and times of one of the true icons of our lifetime.
