Addis Pablo Plays The Music Of Augustus Pablo
Augustus Pablo is one of the most influential figures in the history of dub and reggae. Specifically, he pioneered the use of the melodica in reggae music, an instrument which had previously been reserved for the music teaching of Jamaican schoolchildren. Pablo produced a stream of critically acclaimed hits throughout the 70s, including the seminal 1976 LP King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown.
Despite his career slowing significantly in the 80s and 90s, by the time of his death in 1999 from a collapsed lung, he had garnered a reputation as a true pioneer in the dub and roots reggae world.
To that end, no one is better placed to pay homage to Augustus than his son Addis Pablo. He will be joined on stage by the UK based roots reggae group the Upper Cut Band. The group have been delivering their own brand of roots reggae since 2008, and they have no fixed vocalist.
As such, the combination of Addis with the group is the perfect pairing to pay tribute to one of the undisputed heroes of dub and reggae.
