A Live Rendition Of John Coltrane's Giant Steps

Widely regarded as one of the most influential Jazz musicians of the 20th Century, John Coltrane “the Train” was a saxophonist, composer and pioneer of free jazz. As well releasing much of his own material he was often used as a sideman on many albums, most notably with Miles Davis and Theolonius Monk.

His most famous album Giant Steps was released in 1960 by Atlantic record only a few weeks after helping Davis record his groundbreaking album Kind of Blue only a few weeks before. The album’s influence has resonated through the decades as Coltrane’s different use of chord progressions is still used by modern Jazz musicians as an introduction into free jazz.
