Very Hopkin - An Evening Without Mary Hopkin
Jessica Lee Morgan has announced she is taking her mother Mary Hopkin’s material on a tour in September entitled “Very Hopkin”.
After Jessica’s success representing her mum singing ‘Those Were the Days’ at the Wales Millennium Centre on St David’s Day, she realised that people still wanted to hear Mary’s songs live. This is a chance to celebrate Mary’s music with the closest thing to Mary – Jessica!
Jessica said “I am so excited to be honouring my Mum in this way. It’s been my job to politely decline gig offers but, partly in jest, I’ve offered my services in return. When I sang ‘Those Were the Days’ this year at the St David’s Day Celebration in the Millenium Centre, the audience seemed to enjoy it. This pushed me to crack on with this tribute that I’ve been planning for some time. I love the songs that we’ll be doing and I hope you’ll enjoy them too!”
Mary retired from touring in 1999. She fully supports her daughter’s tribute, saying “I’m delighted and flattered that Jessica wants to go out and sing my songs. She has a beautiful voice, is an excellent performer and I know she loves live performance much more than I do.”
You can expect to hear some of the hits, songs that Mary has written, and a few of Jessica’s own thrown in.
