Julian Velard is from Brooklyn, New York. He's a bit like a young Tom Waits. He sits on stage with his grand piano and sings songs about love with his whiskey-and-cigarettes-soaked voice.
A former Parisian street sweeper and nursery school gym teacher, Julian was plucked from relative obscurity in 2007 after being discovered on MySpace. He found himself at the center of a record company bidding war, eventually signing with the legendary label EMI.
The Sunday Times have called him “A tantalizing prospect. Catchy but complicated; a surprisingly rare combination” and Time Out has compared him to Harry Nilsson and Tom Waits.
