Never miss another 'Brendon Burns' show
Dumb White Guy: Brendon Burns, Jamali Maddix, Daniel Veinbergs, Desiree Burch, Ola
"Dumb White Guy – an egalitarian, unscripted live talk show, featuring stand up from a plethora of comedians on a range of social issues, intercut with completely uncensored chat.
Loosely based on Brendon Burns’ critically acclaimed podcast Dumb White Guy where he travelled the world repeatedly performing as the ethnic minority in the room and interviewed comics of different sexuality, ethnicity and gender, asking, funnily enough, dumb white guy questions. Through this, Burns saw how comedy breaks down barriers and can be one of the most empathetic forms of communication. Here he’ll be the Dumb White Guy on the panel, asking the questions others may be too politically correct to ask. He might be clumsy and occasionally crass but he’ll make sure he gets to the heart of matter. Come, laugh, wince and have some preconceptions challenged.
This month’s theme is:
Everything You Wanted To Know About Black People But Were Too Afraid To Ask
Why, when we think of black people, do we just think of skin colour? The Afro-Carribean community is more culturally diverse than any other ‘minority’ in the world. Nobody looks at Europe as one country, yet Afro-Caribbeans who come from nearly 60 different countries, all with their own language and culture, are often regarded as a single group. Black folk aren’t even all descended from the same continent. Burns looks to examine this in his own cack-handed way.
Joining him on the panel this week will be:
Jamali Maddix – British Jamaican and just as obsessed with racial dynamics as Brendon.
Daniel Veinbergs – A young white Estonian comedian who’s never met any black people except Jamali.
Desiree Burch – A warm-hearted and charismatic African American New Yorker who only knows about the white part of her heritage as they didn’t keep track of where they’d stolen the black part from.
Ola – Young British Nigerian who is a self-producer and super-motivated. He worked out at a very young age no one’s going to hand him a god damn thing."
