City of London Symphonic Winds, conducted by Alan Duguid, presents a wonderful selection of music inspired by stage and screen. This early evening concert has something for everyone with well-known pieces from the worlds of film, opera, musicals, ballet and theatre, plus some unexpected twists.
The programme will include music from the musical Chess (written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of the pop group ABBA), a selection from Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird, and music from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana.
Also featuring music from the Studio Ghibli animation films (by the Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi), Deo Gracias (music written for the Royal Shakespeare Company by Guy Woolfenden) and, featuring solo clarinet, Viktor's Tale from the film The Terminal (John Williams).
Paul Hart's entertaining 'Silver Screen' is a programmatic version of a silent film score, and completing the programme is Alastair Wheeler's 'Porgy and Tristan and Isolde and Bess': the music of Gershwin and Wagner, but not as you've heard it before.
