A Tour Around Baroque Europe
Le Petit Orchestre is a small ensemble of eight musicians, specialising in music of the baroque era played on copies of instruments of the period. This programme casts the net wide to encompass works from the leading musical European countries of the day.
Germany is represented by Handel, his ravishing duet ‘As Steals the Morn’ from settings of poems by John Milton. Italy brings us Geminiani’s great set of variations on the Portuguese dance theme La Folia, thence to France for an exquisite aria by Lully, and finally to London for a much loved work by one of the period’s most popular symphonists.
