Strength for Life: Photography Exhibition

To coincide with International Day of Older People (1 Oct), Age International and The Guardian are displaying a series of photographs that depict the strength and dignity of older people from around the world.

The month-long exhibition, titled ‘Strength for Life’, will showcase a series of striking images taken by award-winning Guardian photographer David Levene. David visited Age International’s work in a village in eastern Myanmar (Burma) where two-thirds of people from the middle generation have left to find work in neighbouring Thailand, leaving behind grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

‘Strength for Life’ also features selected images from the Charity’s photography competition, which asked for striking and thought-provoking images of later life around the world.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of what life is like for older people and their families living in poverty around the world. Age International works in more than 30 developing countries, helping older people with emergency relief and long-term development programmes. The Charity helps older people in developing countries to escape poverty, receive the right kind of healthcare, survive emergencies and have their contributions to families and communities recognised and valued.
