Old Christmas Returned - Christmas celebrated, banned and restored in 17th century England.
A seasonal programme following the calendar from Advent to Candlemas in music, words and song. Carols, ballads, consort music, lutesongs, readings and solos for the viol and lute.
Includes music by Byrd, Gibbons, Lawes, Locke, Peerson, and Purcell; readings from Shakespeare and Herrick; and a number of Puritan rants against, and Royalist defences of Christmas.
