Cameron Mackintosh is delighted to announce the return of Les Misérables - The Staged Concert for a six-week limited run at the Sondheim Theatre from 5th December 2020 – 17th January 2021, coinciding with the musical's 35th year on Shaftesbury Avenue.

Les Misérables - The Staged Concert broke box office records and sold out its entire 16 week season when it ran last year at the Gielgud Theatre. Its all-star cast, led by Michael Ball as Javert, Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean*, Carrie Hope Fletcher as Fantine and Matt Lucas as Thénardier will return alongside a company of over 50 actors and musicians.

Cameron Mackintosh says, "the beautiful new Sondheim Theatre will re-open its doors so audiences can once again leap to their feet thrilled by Victor Hugo's timelessly uplifting story of the survival of the human spirit told through Boublil and Schönberg amazing iconic score - Let The People Sing. Happy Christmas to us all."

Covid safety measures and social distancing will be in place front of house, on stage, backstage and throughout the building.

*Please note that at certain performances John Owen-Jones will play the role of Jean Valjean.

Alfie Boe

Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe was born in Blackpool to opera loving parents, with his Mother from Co. Mayo and his father from Norway. In this short time he has moved from being a Car Mechanic to an award winning Broadway star. His enchanting voice has captured the hearts of audiences and critics on both sides of the Atlantic. Alfie has moved further away from his traditional operatic repertoire on recent recordings and has never sounded so coolly contemporary, applying his extraordinary voice to a soulful set of country and blues, folk and gospel, standards and originals such as, ‘Georgia On My Mind’, ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ and ‘Glory, Glory Hallelujah’. His repertoire draws on the full range of his musical interests, from pop to rock to classical to musical theatre.

Carrie Hope Fletcher

Carrie Hope Fletcher is an award-winning actress, YouTuber and best-selling author. She appeared in The Christmasaurus Live (Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith) and completed a nationwide tour of The Addams Family, which included a televised performance on Tonight at the London Palladium. Other theatre credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and War of the Worlds (UK tours), Les Miserables (Queen’s Theatre), Wind in the Willows (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) and Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre).

Matt Lucas

One half of the hilarious comedy duo behind the BAFTA Award-winning BBC comedy show, Little Britain. Matt Lucas made his name as George Dawes, the hyperactive man-baby on the Reeves and Mortimer game-show, drumming insane rhythms and hollering out the end of round scores. He then went on to create and star in the spoof interview show Rock Profiles with David Walliams.
