Voicelab: Beyond The Bassline
Men, are you bored of the bassline?
Voicelab is Southbank Centre's vocal initiative and its monthly drop-in workshops aim to get more men singing.
Learn simple African songs from across the continent, plus original compositions from the musical drama Threshold, inspired by Amos Tutola's novel The Palm Wine Drinkard.
Juwon Ogungbe, a musician, singer, composer and band leader from London, of Nigerian heritage, leads the workshop. Juwon places African music at the heart of his work, which also encompasses pop, jazz and classical music.
This open and inclusive workshop introduces men of all ages and singing abilities to music which feels good to sing. If you are already a man who sings, please bring along a friend, colleague or family member who doesn't. No experience is necessary – just turn up on the day and join in.
