BBC Children In Need Rocks For Terry

A special concert will take place on Tuesday 1st November at the Royal Albert Hall to honour BBC Children in Need's Life President and legendary broadcaster, Sir Terry Wogan.

A combination of songs that Sir Terry loved, or had a connection with, will lie at the heart of the concert and will be performed by a number of different artists including Take That, Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs, Gregory Porter, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Rick Astley, Alexander Armstrong, The Vamps and Ward Thomas.

The night will be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Greg James. Speaking of the concert Fearne Cotton said: 'It has been an honour working with Sir Terry across the years on Children in Need and it’s a privilege to be hosting Rocks in celebration of his life. It’s going to be a very special evening with some great artists performing some of his favourite tracks.'

Greg James said: 'It’s a privilege to host Rocks alongside Fearne. Sir Terry was, in my eyes, the ultimate broadcaster. A friend to millions on his radio show and a hero to millions more through his work with Children in Need. It’s an absolute honour to be asked to be part of the concert. It’s going to be a brilliant night.'

Take That are performing at the concert in tribute to Sir Terry as one of their first ever TV appearances was on Sir Terry's chat show, Wogan, in 1991.

The evening will include archive depicting Sir Terry’s incredible radio and television career including a chance to relive one of ‘The Radio 2 Janet and John’ stories, which he told on his Radio 2 Breakfast Show. This will be accompanied with special illustrations created by Tony Ross. Appeal films telling the stories of the children and young people supported by the Charity will be played across the evening and the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Crouch End Festival Chorus and the Brighouse and Rastrick Band will be on stage to accompany performances.

Bob Shennan, Controller, BBC Radio 2 and Vice Chairman, BBC Children in Need, said: 'Sir Terry was one of the Nation’s best loved Broadcasters and it’s a privilege to be celebrating his life with BBC Children in Need Rocks. The night promises to be full of fun for music fans around the country.'

The concert is to be broadcast on BBC One during the week of the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal. It will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

The concert and TV Show will raise money for BBC Children in Need - the charity that Sir Terry held so closely to his heart and which, with his invaluable support and dedication for more than thirty years, has raised more than £840 million for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

Please note that the artists appearing may be subject to change.
